Economics Minister Woody Duh told the legislature Wednesday that the Water Resources Agency has begun preparing for what it says could be the driest year in a decade. The Water Resources Agency is part of the Economics Ministry and is responsible for managing Taiwan’s water resources.
Inadequate rainfall this season has already forced the agency to begin creating artificial rain at the Shihmen Reservoir in northern Taiwan. But Director-General of the Water Resources Agency, Yang Wei-fuu, say eight cities and counties remain on a water-shortage alert. Yang said the Water Resources Agency has already begun rationing water used for industrial purposes.
The Water Resources Agency is urging people in Taiwan to conserve water by being careful about how much water they use.
