Taiwan ranked eighth out of the 130 countries measured on the Global Entrepreneurship Index for 2015, making it the most attractive place in Asia to launch a start-up in the new year.
The US-based Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute released the latest edition of the index this week. The United States came first in the index, followed by Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. Switzerland and Singapore rounded out the top ten.
Taiwan has been included in the countries assessed by the non-profit institute since the 2012 report. It has been ranked in the top 10 each year. While Taiwan slipped from seventh place in the 2014 index, the report said that both Singapore and Taiwan “increased their level of productive entrepreneurship”.
Taiwan’s National Development Council said Taiwan’s strong entrepreneurial culture works in tandem with the government’s efforts to liberalize the economy. The council is the top government body charting Taiwan’s economic policy.
