A top Chinese official is planning to visit Taiwan this year. The official is Chen Deming, Chairman of the Association of Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS).
Spokesman for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, Ma Xiaoguang, announced the visit on Wednesday in answer to questions from the media. He said that Chen plans to visit sites important to Taiwan’s high-end agricultural, biotech, and ecotourism industries. The visit’s purpose will be to strengthen cross-strait exchanges and explore new areas for cooperation.
Ma said the dates of the trip will be decided after relevant cross-strait meetings.
