Taiwanese drivers in nine US states can now obtain local licenses without taking drivers’ tests. Drivers from these US states can also enjoy the same privilege in Taiwan. That’s due to memorandums that have been signed between nine states and Taiwan. Mississippi has just become the ninth state to sign such a memorandum with Taiwan. The other states are Idaho, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Delaware, Washington, and Maryland.
Under the new memorandum with Mississippi, Taiwanese nationals who are residents of Mississippi only need to get their residency confirmed and present their Taiwan driver’s license in order to get a Mississippi license. Mississippi residents who have lived in Taiwan for over a year or who are overseas Taiwanese can also get a Taiwanese driver’s license the same way. This is the first time that Mississippi has agreed to allow foreigners to drive without taking a test.
