Economics Minister Woody Duh said on Monday that he has no desire to continue on as head of the economics ministry.
Duh was speaking after the Cabinet resigned en masse on Monday morning following the ruling party’s landslide defeat at the polls over the weekend.
As for Taiwan’s efforts to sign free trade agreements with other nations, which is part of the job of the economics minister, Duh said that there is much more to be done. But he said he would leave that up to the new economics minister.
When asked by reporters if he was concerned about the future of Taiwan, Duh said he was. But he said he respected the decisions made by voters.
Meanwhile, Culture Minister Lung Yingtai has also decided to step down from her post. Lung, who is the nation’s first culture minister, said that it had not been easy setting up the foundation for the ministry, but that she managed to accomplish what she started out to do. She said she has no regrets about leaving and has faith in the future of the ministry. Lung said she will go back to her writing and spend more time with her aging mother.
