Taiwan has welcomed its 9 millionth visitor this year. At the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Tuesday, Tourism Bureau officials greeted a man from Hong Kong and presented him with flowers.
The man, surnamed Lo, is on a sightseeing trip with his two children. He is visiting Taiwan for the first time. Lo said he and his children are very excited and happy to be Taiwan’s nine millionth visitor of the year.
On Wednesday the Tourism Bureau held a press conference to announce that it has achieved its foreign visitor arrival goal for the year. The bureau also presented Lo with a selection of Taiwanese gifts.
Last year, Taiwan recorded over eight million international visitor arrivals. Head of the Tourism Bureau David Hsieh said the United Nations World Tourism Organization has listed Taiwan’s foreign visitor growth as the best in the world. Korean visitors have increased the most at 61%, followed by Chinese visitors at 38%, and Europeans at 20%.
Taiwan achieved this year’s goal of nine million international visitors ahead of schedule. Hsieh said starting next year, the Tourism Bureau will work to further enhance the quality of tourism in Taiwan.
