Nauru President visits central Taiwan workforce development center
A presidential visit

Nauruan President Divavesi Waqa visited the Ministry of Labor Workforce Development Agency’s Taichung-Changhua-Nantou Regional Branch on Friday. He was accompanied by Labor Minister Chen Hsiung-wen.

Chen explained that the government established the training center to compensate for small and medium-sized enterprises’ inability to train workers. Chen said that the government has worked to train workers for many years, with the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou branch of the workforce training center opening in 1976.

Chen said that Taiwan is happy to share its experience training workers with other countries. He said that Taiwan’s government has promoted training exchange programs. So far, more than 1,700 workers from more than 60 countries have come to Taiwan for professional training.

Of the workers currently in Taiwan for training, three come from Nauru. The Nauruan workers are learning plumbing and electrical maintenance, refrigeration, air conditioning, and energy technology, and computer multimedia and web applications.

Waqa met with the Nauruan workers and thanked Taiwan for the welcome they have received.
