Obama to sign US bill authorizing sale of frigates to Taiwan
That's what friends are for

A US congressional bill authorizing the sale of four decommissioned frigates to Taiwan is now ready to be signed into law by President Barack Obama.

The House of Representatives passed the Naval Vessel Transfer Act 2014 on Wednesday. The bill is identical with the one previously passed by the Senate.

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce, who introduced the bill, thanked the members of Congress for their support of the bill. He said the passage of the bill showed that relations with Taiwan enjoy bipartisan support. Royce also said that the bill will help strengthen Taiwan’s defense capabilities and ensure peace across the Taiwan Strait.

Commander-in-Chief of Taiwan’s Navy, Admiral Chen Yeong-kang, visited Royce and expressed Taiwan’s appreciation for his support.
