Taiwan’s foreign ministry says Taiwan and Japan look forward to building ties on the current foundation. That’s the word from foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao on Monday.

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won reelection on Sunday. Kao said she believes Abe’s new         Cabinet will continue stable governance for the country.

Kao said Taiwan and Japan share the same values in freedom, democracy and rule of law. The two countries have a special partnership in economics, trade, culture and tourism. She also said the people of both countries have strong ties with each other.

She said the two countries hope to cooperate in regional trade blocs. These include the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
