A group of 42 elderly cyclists from Taiwan, Japan and Singapore began a 2,000 kilometer marathon on Tuesday. The cyclists are aged around 70 and are taking on a 21 day cycling journey of the US and Canada on Tuesday.
It is the first time that Taiwan’s Concern & Care Society is hosting such an event for the elderly. The Taiwanese senior cyclists have been training for the event for almost 8 years.
The CEO of the Concern and Care Society, David Lee said he started planning the event five years ago and made four scouting trips to Canada and the United States for the occasion.
The riders will be starting out from Vancouver, Canada and head south passing Victoria before arriving in Washington State, USA. They will then head south to Seattle, Portland and then to San Francisco. The cyclists hope to arrive in San Jose, CA on April 22. The longest journey in one day will be 180 km.
