El Salvador is set to open another trade office in Taiwan in early January.
The decision is part of the Central American country’s plan to promote trade, investment and exports between the two sides.
Taiwan’s ambassador to El Salvador, Andrea Lee, has welcomed the decision. Lee said that it has been more than 80 years since the two countries established formal diplomatic relations. Lee said that over the past 80 years, the two countries have maintained friendly and cooperative ties.
President Ma Ying-jeou visited El Salvador in July of this year. During the trip, he signed a joint communiqué with Salvadorian President Salvador Sanchez Ceren.
When El Salvador’s Foreign Minister Hugo Roger Martinez visited Taiwan in October, he also signed a letter of intent on a five-year cooperation plan with Taiwan.
