Kenyan runners won the men’s and women’s divisions of the Taipei Fubon Marathon on Sunday.
Julius Chepkwony Rotich of Kenya picked up the men’s title and the NT$1.2 million (US$38,031) prize. His winning time of 2:14:04 was about four minutes off the event's record time set back in 2011.
Meanwhile, the women's title went to Alice Jemeli Timbilil, also of Kenya, who finished with a time of 2:34:55, which was about seven minutes off the women’s record, also set in 2011.
Local runner Su Chih-ping finished first among Taiwanese men and 10th overall with a time of 2:36:04, while Hsieh Chien-ho led Taiwanese women with a time of 2:51:01.
More than 42,000 runners took part in the competition's many divisions, which in addition to the full marathon, included a half-marathon, a 9 km race for police and firefighters, and a 2 km race for youngsters.
