Taiwan’s navy has received its first locally-made stealth missile warship. The vessel was delivered to the military at a ceremony on Tuesday in Yilan County.
Defense Minister Yen Ming said the warship -- the Tuo Jiang -- is a milestone for the navy. That’s because the speed of the warship far exceeds its standard, making it the fastest and most powerful one in Asia.
Yen also said the vessel was planned, designed and made in Taiwan.
“The warship sets a good example of meeting our own defense needs and the policy of constructing our own navy vessels. With a shape that is the first of its kind, the warship will be a vital party of our troops in the future," said Yen.
The twin-hull warship that features mobility and high performance will be equipped with locally-developed Hsiung Feng II and Hsiung Feng III anti-ship missiles.
