Data show crashed TransAsia plane off course when attempting landing
What happened?

The Aviation Safety Council has released an initial report with new details about the July crash of a TransAsia Airways flight on the outlying island of Penghu.

The report, issued on Friday, confirmed that the passenger plane carrying 58 people had deviated from its course when it attempted to land. According to the black box recording transcript released by the council, the two pilots reported not being able to see the runway after missing the intended mark in bad weather.

TransAsia flight GE222 took off from Kaohsiung on the island of Taiwan. It crashed just outside the main airport in Penghu after aborting am initial landing attempt. 48 passengers and crew members were killed.

The Aviation Safety Council said a final report on the crash will be published in October 2015.
