Shares of one of Taiwan’s leading solar cell suppliers, Motech Industries Inc., moved higher Saturday morning. Buying was sparked by the company’s announcement a day earlier that it will merge with smaller rival Topcell Solar International Co. (TSI).
After the merger, Motech is expected to become the largest solar cell producer in the world so the current buying reflected investors’ optimism towards the company’s competitiveness in the global market.
The merger deal will boost Motech’s production capacity to 3GW from the current 2GW to become the world’s largest solar cell supplier.
