A documentary produced by the National Geographic Channel featuring Taiwan’s Air Force Thunder Tiger Aerobatic Team will be premiered on New Year’s Day.
The single-episode one-hour special titled “Taiwan Elite Warriors: Thunder Tigers” will reveal the stories behind the team’s members, including one who died in a recent crash.
On behalf of the defense ministry, deputy defense minister Andrew Hsia said he was pleased to see the completion of the documentary, following 16 months of filming and follow-up editing.
Seven pilots on the team are featured in the documentary. Through the documentary, viewers will get a glimpse of the hardships they endure as they practice various aerobatic maneuvers, including rolls and spins.
The program marks the third time National Geographic has featured a special on Taiwan’s military, following documentaries on Taiwan’s Marine Corp in 2013 and another on a drill in which fighter jets performed takeoffs and landings on a section of freeway in 2011.
