A new survey has found that 39.7% of new immigrants to Taiwan learned how to use the internet after they arrived. The survey was conducted by the Cabinet’s National Development Council. It also found that about 80% of respondents use the internet to find information about Taiwan.
The survey found that in 2014, about 66.5% of new immigrants were computer users. That figure has changed little since a similar survey was conducted in 2011. However, this year’s survey found a large increase in wifi and mobile internet use – from 43.6% in 2008 to 72.1% in 2014.
An official with the National Development Council said that new immigrants have largely skipped over using computers in favor of using portable electronics that utilize wifi or mobile internet technology.
