Internationalization and innovation are trends in higher education: Ma
President Ma Ying-jeou

President Ma Ying-jeou says that internationalization and innovation are trends in higher education. He was speaking on Monday at a national awards ceremony in honor of Taiwan’s top researchers.

Ma said that Taiwan ranked 10th in the world in terms of innovation. That’s according to the annual report on global competitiveness released by the Switzerland-based World Economic Forum.

Ma also said the UK-based QS World University Rankings found that Taiwan had made strides in 12 of the 30 subjects.

The president spoke about the academic achievements of the Republic of China, which is the official name of Taiwan.

“Although the Republic of China, with 23.37 million people, is ranked 50th in the world in terms of population, our research in the areas of science and technology has played a leading role,” said Ma.

The president said that no matter how creative and innovative Taiwan is, getting the basics right and having a solid foundation are crucial to Taiwan.
