President Ma Ying-jeou says the Investigation Bureau must take heed of blind spots in national security. Ma was speaking Tuesday at a graduation ceremony for newly-recruited investigators.
Ma said Chinese tourists have made more than three million visits to Taiwan each year. As the large influx of Chinese tourists may pose a threat to national security, he told the Investigation Bureau to be vigilant.
“While the bureau under the Justice Ministry is tasked with crime investigation, it also plays an important role in national security," said Ma.
"Therefore, I hope you all work hard to prevent any blind spots following the increase of cross-strait exchanges.”
Besides ensuring Taiwan’s national security, Ma said investigators should strengthen their expertise and have integrity.
