Taiwanese women’s rights NGO The Garden of Hope Foundation has invited US activist Eve Ensler to speak in Taiwan on the issue of women’s rights.
Ensler, who is also an award-winning playwright, founded the V-day movement in 1998 in an effort to end violence against girls and women. The Guardian newspaper has named her one of 100 most inspiring women in the world.
The Garden of Hope Foundation said that Ensler is best known for her play The Vagina Monologues, which relates stories about sex, abuse and rape as they affect women. The Vagina Monologues is staged in 1,000 cities around the world every year. The Garden of Hope Foundation has held more than 23 performances of the monologues since 2005.
At a press conference on Thursday, Ensler said that women’s rights is a global issue and hopes to raise awareness of gender violence.
