Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is monitoring the health of 392 people in connection with the ongoing outbreak of H5N8 and H5N2 in the south of the country.
According to the latest figures from the CDC, the people under monitoring are spread between six cities and counties. Twenty-one have exhibited flu like symptoms, and the CDC has tested the nine most serious cases for signs of avian flu. So far, none have tested positive.
The CDC has also announced it is monitoring 39 poultry farms for signs of an avian flu outbreak.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Agricultural Technology Research Institute has filed a report on the outbreak with the World Organization of Animal Health. Current sources indicate that the strain of H5N2 has not been seen in Taiwan before. It is believed that the chances of human infection are low.
