Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi has praised the Taiwanese people for their involvement in charity work.
Satyarthi was speaking in Taipei on Thursday. He is in Taiwan for a five-day visit. The 61-year-old from India is the founder of “Save the Childhood Movement”. He shared the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize with Pakistani teenager and children’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai.
During his speech, Satyarthi praised Taiwanese volunteers who travel to India each year to help at his organization. The organization campaigns against child slavery and labor, and has rescued over 80,000 children since the 1980s.
President Ma Ying-jeou, who attended the event, said that the Taiwanese people are very willing to help others. He also said he hopes Taiwan can continue to cooperate with Satyarthi to save more children.
