Foreign Minister David Lin says that a China-Latin America summit held in Beijing last week will not affect relations between Taiwan and its Latin American allies.
Speaking at the legislature on Thursday, Lin said that the meeting was centered on the topics of energy, basic infrastructure, agriculture, innovation in manufacturing technology, and information technology.
Lin also said that representatives from eight of Taiwan’s Latin American allies were present at the summit, but were there because of their countries’ membership in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. He said that although China has offered Taiwan’s allies in Latin America tempting offers of cooperation as well as favorable loans, Taiwan’s relationship with these diplomatic allies has remained firm.
