A French film festival is set to assist Burmese-Taiwanese director Midi Z on the production of his new film The Road of Mandalay.
The film centers on the life and love of two illegal immigrants in Thailand. It was selected out of five Taiwanese film projects to receive assistance by the Festival des 3 Continents in the French city of Nantes.
The collaboration emerged after a two-day workshop in Paris. In the workshop, Taiwanese directors, producers, and screenwriters of the five film projects presented their works in search of co-production opportunities in France.
The workshop was jointly organized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion, and France’s Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animé (CNC).
Midi Z’s 2014 film Ice Poison was selected as the Taiwanese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, which will be presented on Feb. 22.
