Taiwanese left-hander Chen Wei-yin lost his first start of the season for the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, giving up four runs and a career-high 12 hits to the Boston Red Sox.
The 28-year-old pitcher threw 98 pitches, 66 for strikes, and did not walk anybody and struck out five. Many of the hits he gave up were weak flares or ground balls that trickled through the infield.
Chen has struggled against the Red Sox during his career, but he was not dissatisfied with his first outing of the year. The Orioles’ manager attributed the number of hits partly to bad luck and said he was proud of Chen.
