Despite the chilly temperatures we’ve had lately in Taiwan, the plum flowers are in bloom! If you’re in Taipei, some of the best places to view the beautiful white flowers are the gardens of Chiang Kai-shek’s former residence in Shih-lin, as well as Sun Yat-sen Park and Jung-hsing Park.
A Taipei park official said that visitors should take the opportunity to check out the flowers while they can, because they only bloom for about 10 to 25 days. Once the petals fall off, that’s when the little green plums begin to appear.
If you have a little more time and would like to venture further afield, you can also take in the plum blossoms at Meishan Park in Chia-yi County, southern Taiwan. The park features some 3,000 trees over six hectares.
Park officials say that the trees began blooming in late December and are already 70-80% in bloom. They also urged visitors to visit while they can, saying that rain could cut short the season.
