Head of the Mainland-based Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhang Zhijun, will visit the outlying Taiwanese island of Kinmen in February. That’s the word from the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), Taiwan's top China policy-making body, on Wednesday.
MAC Minister Wang Yu-chi said he will meet with Zhang on Kinmen, but China has yet to determine the exact timing of the visit. Wang said that during the meeting, the MAC will reiterate Taiwan's opinion that a series of four new flight routes that China has recently announced will create risks to aviation safety under abnormal situations such as bad weather conditions. China plans to have the routes enter operation on March 5.
Wang said that Taiwan’s government will have contingency plans if China insists on implementing the new routes.
Apart from the new flight routes, Wang said the two sides will discuss illegal sand mining, floating trash on the ocean, cross-border fishing, regional economic integration, and tourist exchanges.
