Minister of the Mainland-based Taiwan Affairs Office Zhang Zhijun will visit the outlying Taiwanese island of Kinmen in early February. That’s according to a report in the New York Times on Wednesday.
The article quoted the Minister of Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council, Wang Yu-chi, as discussions will touch on topics including unauthorized sea sand mining and illegal fishing conducted by Chinese ships in Taiwanese waters.
Wang said that he will also bring up China's unilateral declaration last week of four new flight routes passing near Taiwan, routes that may impact aviation safety and Taiwan’s national security.
Zhang is set to visit Kinmen for three days just before the Chinese New Year, which falls on February 19. He will not be visiting Taiwan proper.
