The Council of Agriculture announced on Thursday that 12 additional chicken farms have been inspected for avian flu. The virus has spread from ducks and geese to chickens.
The council said that a total of 389 poultry farms have been inspected, bringing the total number of poultry tested for avian flu to more than 2 million. Officials say that avian flu has now been found at 330 farms.
Agricultural official Chang Su-san said her office will announce new preventative measures on Friday. She said that the epidemic remains confined to western Taiwan.
