Deputy foreign minister Simon Ko is in Saudi Arabia to bring a congratulatory letter to the new king, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. That’s the word from Taiwan’s foreign ministry on Tuesday.

Salman is half-brother and successor to Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, who passed away last Friday. Ko also brought a letter of condolence from Taiwan.  Many foreign leaders are visiting Saudi Arabia’s new king.

Foreign minister David Lin sent a message of condolence to the Saudi Arabian Trade Office in Taipei on Monday.

Saudi Arabia is Taiwan’s largest petroleum import country. Bilateral trade volumes reached US$17.4 billion in 2013.
