Taiwan’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) is at a record high of 88.23 in January. It rose 1.87 points in the last month.

Taiwan saw an upward trend in 6 factors including job opportunities, the domestic economic outlook, consumer prices, stock investment, durable goods and household income.

Economist at Fujen University Hsieh Bang-chang said the increase indicates growing consumer confidence in the economy. The drop in global oil prices and an increase in consumer prices were major factors to this optimism. But Hsieh said there is still pessimism due to stagnant wages.
