US senior official for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Robert Wang, is visiting Taiwan to discuss trade and economic issues with Taiwanese officials. This is Wang’s third visit to Taiwan since he assumed duties as US senior official for APEC in August 2013.
According to the American Institute in Taiwan, during his visit from Saturday to Tuesday, Wang will “meet with Taiwanese officials and business leaders to exchange views on this year’s APEC agenda and other trade and economic matters of mutual concern”. The institute is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic relations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Taiwan’s foreign ministry said that the US official is scheduled to meet with former Vice President Vincent Siew, Foreign Minister David Lin, and Economics Minister John Deng.
The ministry said over the past few years, Taiwan and the US have cooperated on promoting the Asia-Pacific link in the supply chain, innovation, technology development, and education exchanges.
