Premier Mao Chi-kuo says the information and communication technology (ICT) industry and other non-IT industries are crucial to the momentum needed for Taiwan’s economic development. Mao was speaking Tuesday at a breakfast meeting organized by Taiwan’s business and industrial leaders.
“Non-IT industries” refers to the manufacturing and food industries, among others.
In order to boost the economy, Mao said, the ICT and non-IT industries must undergo transformation.
"The two areas must be transformed and upgraded or even restructured and reorganized in some aspects," said Mao.
"I think the concepts of innovation and creativity should be used as the driving force.”
Mao said the government has already taken several steps to promote the “innovative economy,” such as promoting smart living and smart cities.
