ROC military fought the Sino-Japanese War: Defense Ministry
ROC military fought the Sino-Japanese War: Defense Ministry

Taiwan’s defense ministry says that it was the military under the Republic of China government that fought against the Japanese aggression during WWII. That’s the word from Defense Ministry spokesman David Lo on Tuesday.

The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Sino-Japanese War, which ended in 1945.

China is planning to hold a large-scale military parade in September in Tiananmen Square to mark the anniversary. But Lo said it’s an undeniable fact that it was the military under the ROC government, not the People’s Liberation Army of the Chinese Communist Party, which defeated the Japanese troops.

Lo said the defense ministry is planning to hold an exhibition and a concert to mark the anniversary. He said the ministry would evaluate the suggestion from a lawmaker to hold a military parade.
