Ma lauds ties with Honduras as new ambassador takes post
President Ma with Rafael Fernando Sierra Quesada

President Ma Ying-jeou has praised the strength of diplomatic ties with Honduras. He was speaking on Wednesday when receiving the credentials of Honduras’ newly appointed ambassador to Taiwan, Rafael Fernando Sierra Quesada.

Ma said that the Republic of China and Honduras have enjoyed 74 years of stable diplomatic ties, working together in fields such as trade and agriculture. The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.

The president also said he admired Honduras’ continued progress toward democracy, which he observed on previous visits to the Central American nation.

Ma said he welcomed recent statements by Honduran President Hernandez indicating his desire to visit Taiwan later this year. Ma said that he hopes Hernandez will pay a visit to Taiwan, where his daughter is currently studying, in order to further strengthen ties between the two countries.
