US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russel says that the United States continues to support Taiwan’s well-being, security, and dignity.
Speaking Wednesday at the US State Department’s Foreign Press Center in Washington, Russel told reporters that the US will continue its constructive, unofficial relationship with Taiwan while still adhering to a “One China Policy”.
Russel said that improvements in US-Taiwan relations over the past few years are closely related to improvements in cross-strait relations. He said that the unofficial US-Taiwan relationship continues to enjoy bipartisan support in the US. He also said that the US government supports recent progress in cross-strait relations.
Russel said that the US will continue to defend Taiwan’s autonomy and ensure that Taiwan has space to participate in international organizations.
