A meeting between the minister of Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council and his Chinese counterpart will be delayed.
Taiwan’s Wang Yu-chi is set to meet China’s Zhang Zhijun on the outlying Taiwanese island of Kinmen this weekend. However, both sides announced Thursday that the meeting will be delayed.
Spokesperson of Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council, Wu Mei-hung, said both sides have to concentrate on dealing with the aftermath of a TransAsia Airways plane crash in Taipei. 31 of the 58 people on board are Chinese tourists. She also said that the two sides also still need some time to iron out their differences over China’s new flight routes.
Last month, China unilaterally announced four new commercial flight routes. Taiwanese civil aviation authorities believe that one of the routes could undermine both aviation safety and Taiwan’s national security and want China to move it.
