President Ma Ying-jeou is demanding a comprehensive review of aviation safety in Taiwan. Ma was speaking Thursday during a visit to a hospital where injured survivors of Wednesday’s fatal plane crash were receiving treatment.
Ma said that he has taken steps to prevent future accidents.
"I have demanded that Premier Ma Chi-kuo conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of the plane crash. [Those in charge] should be held accountable for the [accident] and should be disciplined," Ma said. "The government must strengthen Taiwan’s aviation safety so that similar accidents won’t happen again."
The president also went to a funeral home on Thursday to pay his respects to the victims.
Wednesday’s crash is the second fatal accident to happen in Taiwanese airspace during the last seven months.
