Taiwanese-Korean director Chang Chih-wei has received financial aid from a film committee in South Korea for the production of a Taiwanese film. This is the first time a Taiwanese film will receive funding from South Korea.
Chang’s movie Jang-Gae is a co-production between studios in Taiwan and Korea. The film depicts Chang’s autobiographical story of a young Taiwanese growing up in Korea. Chang said he hopes the film shows a side of South Korea that’s different than what’s typically seen in their pop culture.
The shooting of Jang-Gae wrapped up last week. The film is currently in its post-production phase. Filmmakers are hoping to release the film in theaters in the second half of 2020.
