Taiwan firefighters win ten medals at world games
Team Taiwan celebrates its victories at the 2019 World Police and Fire Games.

A group of Taiwanese firefighters has brought home ten medals from a sporting event that tests the athletic prowess of the world’s finest first responders.

Four gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals. That was the final medal count for team Taiwan at this year’s World Police and Fire Games, a global athletics competition for the world’s police officers and firefighters.

The five-member contingent of firefighters representing Taiwan at this year’s games had some impressive achievements. Lin Kuan-yi of Nantou County’s fire department won both a gold medal and a silver medal in weightlifting events. Lin set up a gym on his fire station’s top floor, training every day in the run-up to the games.

The team members say they hope they have shown the world the athletic prowess of Taiwan’s firefighters.
