The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Taipei has reiterated its call for Taiwan to lift the ban on food imports from five Japanese prefectures.
Taiwan put the ban in place after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster amid concerns over radiation.
The Japanese chamber of commerce said that eight years have passed since the disaster. It said it hopes that the Taiwanese government will take scientific data into consideration and lift restrictions on Japanese food imports.
However, Taiwan’s National Development Council says it is impossible to make a breakthrough on the restrictions at this time. The council says it is aware of Japan’s position on the matter and will continue to pay attention to the issue.
