The first ship being built for the coast guard under a fleet development plan is set to be completed at the end of the year. That’s according to the head of the Ocean Affairs Council, Lee Chung-wei.
In 2017, the Cabinet approved a plan to build 141 new ships for the coast guard by 2027. Lee told lawmakers Wednesday that the first ship to be built under this plan, a 600-ton vessel, will be ready for launch late in the year. Lee said the ship will be handed over to the coast guard next year.
Lee also said that the rest of the plan is also moving forward, with bidding on the remaining shipbuilding projects already open.
Meanwhile, coast guard official Hsieh Ching-chin told lawmakers that another ship being built under the plan, a 4000-ton vessel, will also be ready next year, with a launch ceremony possible in March.
