Fall foliage comes to Taiwan
Fall foliage comes to Taiwan

Fall foliage is not something most people associate with Taiwan. Even Taiwanese people may assume that if you want to see the leaves change colors, you have to head overseas.

But across Taiwan, you can find autumnal reds and yellows that are the equal of any in the world- if you know where to look.

In much of Taiwan, the arrival of autumn is a subtle thing, hard to detect. But in some of the island’s forests, the change of seasons is impossible to miss. Scattered across Taiwan are stands of maple and bald cypress that greet autumn with a colorful display.

From Yangmingshan in the north to Alishan in the south, these patches of fall foliage are waiting for nature lovers and photographers alike.

In some of these forests, around 20% of leaves have changed color. Peak leaf viewing season is set to arrive before the end of November. With the long National Day weekend coming up, these places are sure to be filled with visitors looking to celebrate the season.
