Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan. Tourists are attracted to its local culture and rich cuisine. And now, adding to the attraction is something a bit more unconventional- a museum about water treatment.
More than 20,000 people flocked to the newly renovated Waterworks Museum in Tainan on the first day of its reopening. This is a site with 100 years of history, and the city government just spent US$13 million refurbishing the place.
The architecture has gotten a facelift, and the site has also been enhanced for visitors with the adoption of interactive technology. It houses 14 water purifying canisters imported from the UK. A trip through the museum is a trip through time, during which visitors can learn about the history and the functioning of the water treatment system.
