President Tsai Ing-wen says she hopes Dutch lawmakers will get the Netherlands to back a Taiwan-EU investment agreement.

Tsai was speaking during a meeting with Dutch lawmakers and think tank representatives Thursday.

Tsai said that during her presidency, Taiwan and the Netherlands have set up a mechanism for dialogue on economic issues. She said that this year, the two sides have also signed agreements on customs affairs and technological cooperation.

She thanked the lower chamber of the Dutch legislature for supporting Taiwan. Earlier in the month, the chamber passed a motion backing Taiwan’s participation in international organizations.

Tsai said that the Netherlands is Taiwan’s biggest foreign investor. She that she hopes the visiting lawmakers will help gain Dutch support for a bilateral investment agreement between Taiwan and the entire European Union.

She also said she hopes this visit will allow Taiwan and the Netherlands to work together on geopolitical issues and information security in the future.
