Taiwan and US formally sign plan on guava imports
US and Taiwanese officials signed an agreement allowing Taiwan to export guavas to the US

Taiwan and the US have officially signed an agreement to allow the sale of Taiwanese guavas on the US market. That coming from Taiwan’s quarantine bureau, which says both sides signed the agreement in the US on Thursday.

The agreement stipulates that only guavas that meet certain standards can be exported to the US. Farms must first be approved by Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture before they can export to the US. Council officials will assist recognized farmers with the export process.

The agreement also specifies that guava farmers looking to export to the US must keep clear and traceable records. Any pesticides used in the growing process must adhere to standards set forth by the US. Furthermore, packaging, cleaning, and processing must take place in a closed environment.
