Taiwan’s defense minister, General Yen De-fa, says that the joint military exercises between Singapore and Taiwan are not in jeopardy.
Yen was speaking to lawmakers on Monday about “Project Starlight,” which began in April, 1975. The program allows Singaporean troops to train with their Taiwanese counterparts.
Project Starlight has become a topic of concern since Singapore signed a defense agreement with China on October 20th. Yen says, though, that there has been no change to the current agreement between Singapore and Taiwan. He says the international community can rest at ease.
Taiwanese defense officials will head to Singapore next month to discuss the continuation of the program and confirm the number of Singaporean troops coming to Taiwan.
