HTC, a prominent consumer electronics company in Taiwan, announced on Tuesday that it will work with a local university to develop a new e-gaming arena that incorporates mixed reality technology.
HTC has been a leading company in augmented reality (AR) technology. The company joined officials of the National Quemoy University on Tuesday and announced it will develop new mixed reality environments on the university campus. The company said they are aiming to build the first advanced gaming environment in Taiwan and stimulate growth in the e-gaming sector.
A mixed reality environment combines both digital objects generated by virtual reality (VR) technology and an augmented environment generated by augmented reality (AR) technology. Such an environment allows a person to interact with both types of objects. The technology is beginning to be adopted in a number of fields, including art, design, medical training and e-gaming.
