The forestry bureaus of eastern Taiwan’s Hualien and Taitung counties have conducted a two-day fire rescue drill with the National Airborne Service Corps.
On Monday and Tuesday, firefighters, rescue workers, and soldiers, conducted a series of drills in which they practiced tackling various fire hazards. The drills included rappelling down from helicopters to hard-to-reach locations as well as climbing on top of burning buildings.
Officials say that the goal of the drill was to make sure all rescue workers are prepared for late autumn and winter, a period when dry conditions leave forests at a greater risk of catching fire.
