President Tsai Ing-wen has instructed government ministries to continue promoting Taiwan’s APEC agenda. That’s despite Chile’s decision to pull out of hosting this year’s APEC summits due to domestic unrest.
On Thursday, President Tsai expressed regret at the decision to cancel the summits, but said that Taiwan will continue pushing forward its APEC initiatives. Tsai said that APEC is the most important international organization Taiwan participates in. She said that Taiwan is calling for APEC members to take remedial measures so that they will still be able to show the results of their efforts over the past year.
